Taking an About Boating Safely classroom course or one of the online boat safety courses adopted by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will satisfy state requirements for mandatory boater education.

Study your state's boating safety course and take the boater exam online. Upon passing, you'll either print out your temporary boating safety course certificate, or your permanent boating safety card will be mailed to you. The specifics differ from state to state, so be sure to read your state's boating laws and regulations.
